The Shack has been grilling steaks in Bophut's Fisherman's Village since 2003 and calls itself the longest-standing steakhouse on Koh Samui. The room is casual and loud in a good way, with a rhythm and blues theme, an open charcoal grill and a crowd of regular expats mixed with holidaymakers.
Beef is Australian Black Angus, 150 days grain-fed and flown in chilled, and the kitchen will cut a steak to any larger size. Striploin starts at 250g, rib eye at 300g and tenderloin at 200g, with a cheaper grass-fed fillet alongside. The 2kg Black Angus tomahawk feeds four, and the Shack Attack platter puts striploin, rib eye and tenderloin on one board for two or three. Every main includes a potato, coleslaw or salad and a house sauce. Live Maine lobster arrives twice a week for surf and turf.
Best for a relaxed group dinner after a walk through the village. Open nightly from 6pm. There is no service charge, cash is preferred and cards carry a 3% surcharge.
