Sir Loin is a compact steak house a few doors along Jalan Bumi from Lawry's, but with a far more relaxed, modern feel and a VIP room for small groups. Its beef comes exclusively from Cape Grim in Tasmania, the grass-fed Australian brand, and the menu is built around how you want it cooked.
Every steak can be done one of two ways: pan-seared and basted in butter, or grilled over wood charcoal. The house speciality is butter-ageing — cuts wrapped and aged in butter, sometimes with truffle — and the 200-day truffle butter-aged tomahawk (MB7+) is the showpiece for sharing. The Cape Grim Black Angus porterhouse and sirloin are the everyday orders, with mash, sauces and pasta on the side.
Suits friends sharing big cuts and diners after a steak dinner that costs less than the hotel and chain steakhouses. Open daily from 11.30am to 10pm; groups of more than five or the VIP room should be booked directly.
