Pampas is one of six restaurants in Old Malaya, a row of 1919 colonial buildings on Jalan Raja Chulan that was restored and reopened as a dining street. Inside, the steakhouse keeps the arches and old walls; outside, the courtyard bar has Menara KL rising directly above the tables, which is why it is a popular couples' spot.
The kitchen keeps its beef chilled rather than frozen and grills to order. Spanish Txogitxu, from older Basque cattle, is the cut to try, alongside Black Angus, a T-bone and a tomahawk for sharing. The bar handles wine and cocktails for before or after.
Suits date nights and visitors who want a heritage setting close to the Bukit Bintang hotels. Other Old Malaya venues include Italian and Malaysian restaurants and Bar 1919, useful for groups with mixed tastes. Check current prices and hours when booking, as they are not published online.
