André is a small, open-air French bistro on Charoen Krung Soi 42 in the old riverside district of Bang Rak. It has the casual feel of a neighbourhood wine bar, with outdoor tables and a short menu.
Steak frites is the dish to order. Time Out says the steaks rival those of any restaurant in the city, and you can swap the fries for sautéed potatoes and add an au poivre sauce. Charcuterie and a whole baked Camembert, priced at THB 450, make good sharing starters, and the wine list is built for easy drinking by the bottle. The menu is concise, so steak is very much the centre of the meal.
It suits a relaxed dinner or a casual date when a hotel steakhouse feels like too much, and Time Out singles it out for value. André opens from 4pm to 10pm and is closed on Mondays. Saphan Taksin BTS and the Sathorn pier are both within walking distance.
Hours and prices change, so please check with the restaurant before you go.
