CHAR'D Grill is the dinner restaurant at Avista Grande Phuket Karon, an MGallery hotel on the hill above Karon Beach. Tables are set around a torch-lit water feature, some at the edge and some in the shallow end, and a fire show moves between them during service.
The kitchen cooks on a Kopa charcoal grill, and the chef brings the evening's cuts of Australian beef to the table before you order. The Australian grain-fed Angus tomahawk is the signature for sharing, with beef tartare, lobster bisque and smoked burrata among the starters. Andaman seafood, rotisserie chicken, wood-fired pizza, cheese and charcuterie fill out the menu, and Lumina 21-day-aged New Zealand lamb is the alternative to beef.
A good pick for a special-occasion dinner in Karon, particularly if you are staying on the south-west coast. Dinner only, 6pm to 10pm daily, and it is à la carte. Phuket 101 reports a 4.7 Google rating from about 340 reviews. Corkage is THB 1,000 a bottle.
