Steak Go Where

Casual

Casual steak is a small but lively corner of the scene: single-cut steak bars, pick-your-cut grills and steak-frites bistros where a main steak stays under US$25. Hong Kong adds its own tradition of sizzling hot-plate steak served as a set meal.

The Feather Blade in Tanjong Pagar grills one cut over binchotan, and Braseiro on Joo Chiat Road serves flame-grilled ribeye with unlimited fries. Golden Phoenix Restaurant in Kowloon has served sirloin on cow-shaped hot plates since 1969. In Bali, Papi Sapi grills a chosen cut to order in Uluwatu, and Batubara Wood Fire in Pengosekan cooks over local coffee wood.

Casual means under US$25 per person for a main sirloin or ribeye before drinks. Smaller places can fill quickly, so check opening hours and whether they take bookings. Golden Phoenix Restaurant is not halal; halal status at the others is unconfirmed.
